Find the answer by what you are trying to do
This page covers the whole trip: setting up a first task, understanding the price before you confirm, timing a booking around the work that needs doing, moving a date when life intervenes, and talking to your Tasker so the visit runs the way you pictured it. If you already know your question, use the links below to jump straight into a section.
Booking basics
Posting a task and confirming a booking
Post your task, add photos if you have them, and pick a time window. The listing shows what similar jobs cost in your area. Compare Taskers by hourly rate, ratings, and availability, then confirm. You are not charged until the booking is confirmed. Most bookings take a few minutes to set up, and you can message your Tasker before the visit.
Photos help more than a long description. A wide shot of the room and a close shot of the fitting tell a handyman more than a paragraph about what feels loose. If you are not sure what the job is called, describe what you want to end up with and let the Tasker confirm the approach before the visit.
Before you confirm
- Add photos of the space and the fitting.
- Pick a window wide enough for the work.
- Send a short message about parking and access.
You are not charged until the booking is confirmed, and the total at checkout is the total you pay.
That single rule answers most of the questions people send us. Every rate you see comes from the Tasker who set it, every fee is a separate line you can read before you agree, and any change to a booking is agreed between you and the Tasker inside the platform — never assumed on site.
Pricing and fees
How a task rabbit rate becomes your total
Taskers set their own hourly rates, typically between $40 and $90 depending on the metro and the task. Some jobs are quoted by the project instead, especially cleaning and multi-room assembly. The booking total shows the Tasker’s rate and the platform fee as separate line items. What you see at checkout is what you pay. Extra time beyond the booking is billable at the same rate.
-
Most common
Hourly work
Repairs, mounting, small fixes and errands are usually billed by the hour. The clock starts when the Tasker begins the work, and the estimate you see is based on the rate they set.
-
Fixed total
Project quotes
Cleaning, multi-room furniture assembly and larger home repair services often come as one quoted price for the whole job. You see the number before you confirm, and it does not move unless you agree to more work.
-
Same rate
Extra time on the day
If a job runs past the window you booked, the extra time is billed at the same hourly rate. Your Tasker tells you before continuing, and you agree to the change in the booking.
-
Line item
Platform fee
A separate line on every booking total, shown next to the Tasker’s rate so you can see where each dollar goes. Nothing is folded in or hidden inside the hourly number.
Post early, widen the window
Taskers plan their day around booked windows. A job posted in the morning with a four-hour window is easier to fill than a job posted at noon with a one-hour slot.
Scheduling and availability
Time windows, same-day work and what to book when
Bookings use time windows rather than exact minutes. Same-day works best for cleaning and simple assembly in dense metros, where you can see real open slots. Next-day is more reliable for repair work and mounting. Anything needing a specialty tool, a two-person crew, or parts usually lands later. Post early in the day and widen your window if the job is urgent.
- Same day
- Best odds for cleaning and simple assembly in busy metros.
- Next day
- A safer bet for home repair services and mounting work.
- Later in the week
- Jobs that need a specialty tool, a second pair of hands, or a part.
- Weekends
- Popular slots fill first — book earlier than you would on a weekday.
Rescheduling and cancelling
Moving a date when plans change
You can reschedule or cancel from your booking. Terms depend on how close you are to the start time. Rescheduling early is straightforward. Late changes affect your Tasker’s day, so let them know as soon as you can. If something comes up on their side, you are notified and offered alternatives. Keep the conversation on the platform so there is a record.
If your Tasker needs to move the visit, you are not left guessing. You get a message, a reason, and a set of options: a new window with the same Tasker, a different Tasker for the same job, or a cancellation with no charge for work that has not started.

What to say before and during the visit
Message before the visit to confirm parking, building access, and whether you already have the parts. Mention pets, stairs, and anything unusual about the space. During the visit, point out your priorities and let them sequence the work. If you want to add a job on the day, agree on it in the booking so the record stays accurate.
- Parking, buzzer and building access, in one message.
- Pets, stairs and anything unusual about the space.
- Whether you already have the parts, brackets or fixtures.
- Your priority order, so the important fix lands first.
Payments and receipts
How you pay, and what shows on the receipt
Payment runs through TaskNest Hub when the booking is confirmed. We do not ask for cash on site. The methods shown at checkout are the ones that apply to your booking, and they can include card payment through the platform, invoice, or pay-on-completion where available. Your receipt itemizes the Tasker’s rate and the platform fee. Tipping is optional and handled through the platform.
Keep payments inside the platform. If someone asks you to settle in cash to skip a fee, that is not how this works, and the booking record is what protects both sides if anything needs to be looked at later.
When a job changes on site
Nothing proceeds without your agreement
A repair can reveal something bigger once the wall is open. Your Tasker will tell you before doing work outside the booking scope. You can adjust the booking, or stop and get a specialist if the job needs a licensed trade. The same applies to assembly that needs an extra part. Nothing proceeds without your agreement, and the extra time is billed at the same hourly rate.
If it gets bigger
- 1Tasker stops and explains what they found.
- 2You decide: extend, pause, or bring in a specialist.
- 3The change goes into the booking before more work starts.
Finding the right Tasker
Match the profile to the job, not just the rating
Read recent reviews and look for comments about your specific task. Check how recently the Tasker has been active and how many jobs they have completed. A smaller number of detailed reviews often beats a large pile of vague ones. If you find someone good, rebooking them directly is one tap.
- Reviews that name your task — mounting, a leak, a two-door assembly — carry more weight than a general five-line note.
- Recent activity tells you who is actually taking work this month, not who was busy two years ago.
- Completed jobs give a sense of repetition, which matters most for the same task done many times.
- Availability near your window is the last filter before you confirm — a great Tasker three days out is no help for tonight.
Safety and what to expect
Vetted Taskers, a clear visit, a real record
Taskers verify their identity and complete a background screening before accepting bookings. Read the profile, keep communication inside the platform, and meet your Tasker at the door. Clear the work area and secure pets before the visit. Report any issue through the booking so support has the context. Full details are on the trust and safety page.
Coverage and areas we serve
Where Taskers are available today
We operate in major US metros and surrounding suburbs, with the deepest Tasker supply in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston. Smaller cities have fewer Taskers, which mainly affects same-day options. Enter your ZIP code to see who is actually available near you before you commit. If your area is thin, posting a few days ahead usually surfaces someone.
Thin coverage is not a closed door — it is a timing note. Booking two or three days out, or widening your window, opens up choices that a same-hour request cannot.
Quick answers
The questions we get asked most
If your question is not here, contact support and we will answer it directly. These are the ones that come up every week.
Am I charged before the booking is confirmed?
No. You are not charged until the booking is confirmed. You see the Tasker’s rate and the platform fee as separate lines at checkout, and the total shown there is what you pay for the work in the booking.
Can I book a handyman for the same day?
Sometimes, and it depends on your metro and the job. Same-day works best for cleaning and simple assembly in dense areas where you can see real open slots. For home repair services and mounting, next-day is usually more reliable. Post early in the day and widen your time window if you need the visit soon.
What does a task rabbit cost in my area?
Taskers set their own rates, typically between $40 and $90 per hour depending on the metro and the task. Some jobs — cleaning and multi-room assembly, for example — are quoted by the project instead. The listing shows what similar jobs cost near you, so you can compare before you commit.
How do I reschedule a Tasker?
Open the booking and use the reschedule option. Terms depend on how close you are to the start time, so the earlier you move it the simpler it is. Late changes affect your Tasker’s day — send a message as soon as you know, and keep it on the platform so there is a record.
Do I need to supply tools or parts?
Taskers bring their own hand tools. Parts, brackets, fixtures and extra materials are usually yours unless you agreed otherwise in the booking messages. Mention what you already have before the visit — it saves a trip and keeps the window honest.
Can I pay in cash on the day?
Payment runs through TaskNest Hub when the booking is confirmed. We do not ask for cash on site. The methods shown at checkout are the ones that apply to your booking. Tipping is optional and handled through the platform.
What happens if the job turns out bigger than expected?
Your Tasker tells you before doing anything outside the booking scope. You can extend the booking, pause, or bring in a licensed trade if the work needs one. Extra time is billed at the same hourly rate, and the change goes into the booking before more work starts.
How do I get help after a visit?
Report the issue through the booking so support has the full context — the messages, the timing and the scope. That is faster than starting a fresh thread. If you would rather talk it through, contact support and reference the booking.
Still unsure?
Post a task and see real rates near you
The fastest way to answer a pricing or timing question is to post the job and look at what is actually available. Nothing is charged until you confirm, and you can message a Tasker before the visit to check the approach.
